HOPE – A dozen Yerger Middle School students will advance to regional science fair competition this month in Magnolia.
YMS science faculty sponsors Donna Garner, LaTonya Bradley and Darlene Bailey announced the winners of the YMS Science Fair who will advance to the March 18 Southwest Arkansas Regional Science Fair on the campus of Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia.
Winners in the first two of the three places awarded at the YMS event will advance, according to Garner. Those winners include: Miyaunna Purifoy, first, and John Jones, second, biological sciences; Darton Davis, first, and Davionna Perkins, second, medical/health sciences; Pance Patton, first, and Michaela Clark, second, physical sciences; and Katie Hooker/Maggie Haynes, first, and Nadene Wallace/Asia Stockdale, second, team competition.
Third place winners will not advance, but included: Courtney Rogers, biological sciences; Alana Hall, medical/health sciences; Jacqueline Culley, physical sciences; and, Charitie Phillips/Dabria Mantone, team competition.
Judging for the local competition was by YMS teachers and community science professionals from Hope and Prescott. The contest is traditionally open to all YMS students and is a required project for PreAP students, according to Garner.
