HOPE – Five Yerger Middle School students advanced their projects to the Southwest Arkansas Regional Science Fair recently.
The annual science exposition was held on the campus of Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia this year. YMS students participating included Darton Davis, Lance Patton, John Jones, Dabria Manton and Charitie Phillips.
YMS science teacher Donna Garner said the students were afforded the opportunity to take in a number of science-related activities during the competition including visiting an Arkansas Game and Fish Commission freshwater aquarium; seeing a chemistry show; and, visiting a wildlife petting zoo from Logoly State Park.
“Although our students did not place this year, I am very proud of their efforts, and I am thankful that our students had the opportunity to visit the SAU campus and experience the wonderful shows and exhibits they provided,” Garner said. “It is also great to see students introduced to the world of science as a potential career.”
She said competition at the regional level includes students in elementary through high school, which allowed the students to see a variety of projects from upper grade levels.
