The Hope Lions Club heard a program from Hempstead County Judge Haskell Morse on Monday January 25th. The judge talked about some of the storms that affected the county. He noted the county received around $122,000 to assist with storm damage in the storms in March through June. He noted the July 4th storms cost about $250,000 and the county is to get back 35% of that or $74,000 from the state. He also noted the county hauled 53,000 yards of gravel in 2015. This year the county has purchased 2,700 liner feet of pipe which amounts to 90 culverts. 60 have been put in the ground. The judge noted they hope to have some state-aid road projects this year. He is also seeking grant money to replace the courthouse room.
