New academy enrollment response steady
HOPE – Response to the open enrollment period for the newly-developed Hope Academy of Public Service on the historic Garland School campus has been steady, according to Hope Schools Superintendent Bobby Hart.
“We are excited to be able to offer our students and parents an opportunity to have choices,” Hart said.
He said some 41 applications for enrollment in the new academy were received during the first week of the open enrollment period.
“This open enrollment program is a new concept that will point to a brighter future for students, families and our community,” Hart said.
Partnerships for the Hope APS have been announced with the William J. Clinton School of Public Service in Little Rock and the University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana. The goal of the Hope APS is to emphasize a rigorous course of study to prepare students in grades 5-8 to be college ready upon high school graduation, he said.
Enrollment applications are available at the district administration offices, 117 E. Second St., or at the district website www.hpsdistrict.org online, Hart said.
The open enrollment academy will be centered upon a contract-based set of expectations and responsibilities for the student, the student’s family and the school which will be set at the student’s enrollment.
Enrollment is based upon the first 200 applications submitted and will close on April 4. Enrollment is open to all current HPSD students in grades 5-7 in 2016 and in grades 5-8 in 2017.
Applications are to be submitted to Hart’s office at bobbyhart.hpsdistrict.org online, or by mail to Bobby Hart, Supt., Hope Public Schools, 117 East Second St., Hope, Ar.,71801.
Classes will begin in August, 2016, Hart said.
Each student at Hope APS will learn in a blended learning environment through collaborative and individual learning and computer-centered instruction based upon a “personal learning plan” for each student.
The historic Garland School campus, named for Augustus H. Garland, the 11th governor of Arkansas, is currently undergoing renovation to house the Hope APS.
