The Hope Fire Department responded to a fire at Georgia Pacific in the Hope Industrial Park at Oakhaven on highway 32 around 12:30am Thursday. According to Hope Fire Chief Dale Glanton, a conveyor belt which moved material between two buildings caught fire. The belt burned in too and the fire department stayed on the scene for about three hours while employees took the mechanism apart to make sure there was no sawdust burning in the machinery. Chief Glanton said Hope was backed up by the Perrytown, Cross Roads, and South East Volunteer Fire Departments. The actual fire was outside between the two buildings and the actual belt part of the machinery was a total loss. It was valued about $3,000. There were no injuries and production is continuing at the plant.
