The Hope Housing Authority Board meets every 3rd Thursday of each month at noon at the Hope Housing Authority Community Room at 720 Texas Street in Hope

Hope 1st Choice Pregnancy Resource Center will be holding a Safety Baby Shower Tuesday, December 10th at 5:30 pm for those in their 2nd or 3rd trimester. Attendees will receive a free car seat. Hope. The Center is in downtown Hope at 114 South Main Street in the same building as the Charitable Christian Clinic.

​The Annual Hope-Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce Christmas Community Coffee, hosted by Farmers Bank & Trust will be Wednesday, December 11th at the bank, 201 East Third, from 9:30-11 am.  The bank will hold "Cookies with Santa" that afternoon from 3pm to 5pm and all kids are invited!

Starting December 11th, Blevins will host a Christmas Treasure Hunt.  The item to be found will be located inside the city limits.  It will not be hidden on private property so no one should be trespassing.  The clues will be given daily at 4pm on the "Blevins Christmas Treasure Hunt" facebook page.  The treasure will be worth $1,000.  The winner will be announced at the Blevins Christmas Parade on December 14th.


The Blevins Elementary School Christmas Program is Thursday, December 12th at 1:30 and 7:00 pm in the cafeteria

​M-pact "Ehite Christmas" Holiday Special is Friday, December 13th starting at 7 pm at Hempstead Hall in Hope, sponsored by the Hall and Southwest Arkansas Arts Council. Tickets start at $20. Christmas & Candlelight Saturday, December 14th, 1 pm - 8 pm at Historic Washington State Park. Adults: $10, Children Ages 6-12: $6. You and your family will be in awe of the natural beauty that candlelit streets provide as you stroll through the historic village. Decorations, music, and more set the mood for this historic holiday experience. The homes of yesterday are adorned with historic period decorations of pine cones, grapevines, magnolia, and evergreens. Daylight tours are from 1-5 p.m. Candlelight tours begin at 5 p.m. when thousands of luminaries will be lit, and will continue until 8 p.m. Plan time in your schedule to visit Williams' Tavern, offering a Christmas buffet from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. You may also choose to enjoy a horse-drawn surrey ride or shop the gift shops for that special holiday gift.

The Brotherhood and Sisterhood of Fulton will hold a program for Robbie Martin on December 14th at Union Baptist Church in Fulton at 6pm.  Choirs are invited to render and "a" and "b" selection.  For info contact Jessie Henry at 703-8994.

​Old Washington Farmers' Market will have a Christmas Bazaar Saturday, December 14th from 4-8 pm at the Washington Firehous

The Oakhaven luminaries will be set up on Saturday December 14th and 21st. Again this year the town will be giving out hot cocoa and cookies.

The 26th Annual Emmet Christmas "Night of Lights" Parade will be held Saturday December 14th beginning at 6pm sponsored by the Emmet Vision Association.  Those interested in participating in the parade should be at the parking lot on Hazel Street near old school and gym at 5:30pm.  The parade will begin at 6pm sharp and will continue through many streets and neighborhoods ending at the Emmet Chuck Wagon on East 1st Street by City Park.  The parade route is 2miles.  Refreshments will be served and Santa will be there to greet everyone.  For info, call Anita at 903-276-5723 or Jewell Allen at 887-3285.

​Breakfast with Santa Saturday, December 14th from 9-11 am at the Nevada County Fairgrounds in Prescott. For ages 0-12 years old. Admission—Canned food item. Must be accompanied by an adult. Activities include Breakfast with Santa, cookie decorating, letters to Santa, make reindeer food, Santa’s hat crafts, snowball toss, face painting, jingle bell necklace, Christmas coloring pages, and bingo. The Blevins Christmas Parade will be December 14th beginning at 6pm.  The lineup will be at 5:30pm at the Blevins School.  Following the parade there will be hot cocoa and cookies with Santa at the Word of Faith Church.  For info contact Margie Smith or Angela Mitchell.

Calvary Baptist Church at 1301 West Avenue B in Hope will hold a Christmas Carol Sing-Along Sunday December 15th at 6pm.  Robert Green will play the organ for the event and everyone is invited!


Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting for Christus Trinity Medical Clinic at 805 Trinity Drive near Chicken Express, is Tuesday, December 17th at 10 am.

Mt. Olive Baptist Church at 256 Highway 76 in Rosston will hold a Christmas Concert December 17th at 7pm.  The program will feature a night of Christmas music including a mix of Bluegrass, Classical, and Irish Christmas songs.  The program will feature the Silvey Family from Bodcaw, Lynn Silvey of Hope, and Sister Strings of Caddo Gap.  The public is invited.  Refreshments will follow.

The Annual Hope-Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce  Christmas Community Coffee, hosted  by Lance and Associates Real Estate in the log building at 411 West Avenue C, will be Wednesday, December 18th from 9:30-11 am.

Hempstead County 4-H Record Book Workshop is Wednesday, December 18th at 4:30 pm at the Extension Office in Hope. If you have any questions please contact the Extension Office at (870) 777-5771.

​Phi Theta Kappa is conducting a Toy Drive for Arkansas Children's Hospital and Pop Tab Drive for Ronald McDonald Foundation. Donation deadline is Wednesday, December 18th. The monthly singing at Guernsey Baptist Church, 4284 Hempstead 2, is Friday, December 20th. at 6:00 pm. Potluck supper will be served.

Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Prescott at 240 Warren will hold a free "Coats for Kids" distribution on December 21st from noon to 4pm at the church.  Free coats wil be given to kids and a soup and cornbread lunch will be served.  Persons who would like to sponsor a coat can contact Marilyn Trotter at 331-5673.  Rev. Candle Making Workshop, Saturday, December 21, 9 am - noon at Historic Washington State Park Admission: $25. Meet at the candle shop and enjoy the hands-on experience of making candles as you learn the history of this art form. Make your own creation and take it home. Lincoln High School Alumni will hold a Blue & Gold Christmas Ball Saturday, December 21st from 8 pm-midnight at the old Western Sizzlin Building, 1706 Holiday Drive in Hope. Semi-formal attire. Admission is $7 per person. Music provided by D.J. Batt. Door prizes. Gift auction. All money goes to the L.H.S. Scholarship Fund.

The city of Hope Public Works will be closed Tuesday December 24th and Wednesday December 25th for Christmas.  There will be no trash pick up on December 23rd but rubbish will be picked up that day.  Monday's trash will be picked up Thursday December 26th and Tuesday's trash will be picked up Friday December 27th.  There will be no commercial pickup Deember 24th or 25th.  The city of Hope landfill will be closed December 24th and 25th.

Hope-Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce will be closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and December 26th.

St. Mark's Episcopal Church downtown at 3rd and Elm  will celebrate The Birth of Christ Christmas Eve with a birthday party for Jesus beginning at 7 pm in the Parish Hall on Christmas Eve.  The service of Holy Communion will begin at 9 pm in the church. All are welcome

The monthly singing at Southside Baptist Church, Highway 29 South across from the college in Hope, scheduled for Friday, December 27th has been cancelled.

The city of Hope public works will be closed January 1st for New Years.  There will be no rubbish pick up on the 1st.

First Day Hike at Millwood State Park on Highway 32 between Saratoga and Ashdown will be Wednesday, January 1st at 9:00 am starting at the Trailhead. Join a park interpreter for a 1.5-mile hike along the Waterfowl Way Trail. This trail is easy and can accommodate the most novice of hikers. The hike is an hour and a half winding along the lakeshore, observing scenic views and wildlife sightings. Be sure to wear close-toed shoes and bring drinking water. Dress appropriately for the weather.

First Day Hike Wednesday, January 1st from 10:30 am-noon at White Oak Lake State Park near Bluff City. Meeting Place: Tent Camping Area Trailhead. Join park staff  to traverse 2 miles on  Beech Ridge Trail, located beside the tent camping area. After the hike, warm up beside a campfire and enjoy some Dutch oven taco soup. Supplies are limited. Weaving Basics Saturday, January 4th. at Historic Washington State Park. Meeting Place: 1874 Courthouse from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm. Admission: $25 Learn to weave a rug on a lap loom. All supplies are provided in this easy, interactive introduction to weaving. Leave with completed rug, loom, and weaving tools.

Trial by Jury Saturday, January 11 at Historic Washington State Park. Meeting Place: 1874 Courthouse from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm. Adults: $25, children under 14: $20. Experience 19th century justice in Washington as you take part in the "Trial by Jury" series. The evening will begin with a meal at Williams' Tavern Restaurant and then you will proceed to the trial drama. Reservations are required. Call 870-983-2684.

  • The city of Hope Public Works will be closed Monday November 11th in honor of Veterans Day.  Commercial trash routes will run as normal.  As far as residential trash is concerned, Monday's will be picked up Tuesday November 12th and Tuesday's will be picked up Wednesday November 13th.  The city of Hope Landfill will be closed November 11th and there will be no rubbish pick up for the week according to Sanitation Superintendent Nathaniel Holyfield.
